With Alba Martinez, screen printing expert, and Alexandra Paschmann, fashion designer
Over two consecutive evening sessions, we’ll work together to create custom screen-printed shirts using existing clothing!
Session 1, Monday, April 13:
We’ll select fabrics, cut out the front and back pieces, and come up with our own design (image, text, or message). Then we’ll bring this to life through screen printing. You’ll also plan which garment you’d like to pair with your shirt—so please bring an old piece of clothing (yours, from friends/family, or secondhand) to the next session.
Session 2, Wednesday, April 15:
The printed pieces will be sewn together (by machine or by hand) and then attached to the garment you brought. You can try out different techniques—sewing, pinning, or combining—and let your creativity run wild.
The workshop is free and takes place as part of our project “Fast Fashion and How Can We Do Better?”, funded by the Environmental Education Fund of the Mitte district.

On the first day, Tuesday, April 7, we’ll try out basic hand stitches and how to use them.

Free workshops on sustainability and fashion – practical, creative, and theoretical for young people up to age 27 – Tailor-made for groups
The textile market is the fourth largest contributor to environmental destruction in the EU and causes living conditions that are dangerous for humans and animals. Textiles that are “inexpensive” for us end up in illegal landfills and pollute our water and air. That’s why we invite you to book a workshop for your group or class on the background of fast fashion and how we can behave more sustainably.
With our environmental education project “Fast Fashion and How Can We Do Better?”, we offer free workshops on the fashion industry and upcycling clothing. The workshops include both playful, interactive engagement with the hard facts of the fashion industry and practical, creative craftsmanship or playful styling. We can put together an offer for you based on your needs, group size, time frame, and participants’ requirements. Your workshop can take place at the Weinmeisterhaus – Youth Culture Center Berlin-Mitte or at your premises.
Groups of up to 10 participants can also be accommodated in the costume collective’s textile workshop. The Fashion Expedition Quiz starts in a shopping area, such as Alexanderplatz, and ends in a suitable nearby room with further interactive programs and/or practical activities. If you feel like transforming old clothes from the street, you will need two days, as the clothes have to be washed and dried. This is easily possible at the Weinmeisterhaus. The workshops are held in German, but can also be held in English on request.
The project ends in fall 2026, and we welcome inquiries until May, at least three weeks before the desired date, at: projekte@kostuemkollektiv.de
The project is a collaboration between Kostümkollektiv e.V. and the Weinmeisterhaus Youth Culture Center (sponsor: WeTeK Berlin gGmbH) and is funded by the Bezirksamt Mitte von Berlin, Umweltamt, Bereich Umweltbildung.
Workshop: Ironing is underestimated – basic knowledge and tricks
With Agnes Waedt, seamstress and master of home economics
Temperature, humidity, and the right techniques – it’s not rocket science! Clothes often only reveal their character after ironing, and this is the only way to get them into shape. Master of home economics Agnes Waedt shows what is important and teaches the basics and the most important tricks. She will answer individual questions; please bring an example garment with you to receive specific advice. The workshop will be held in German.
When: Friday, March 20, 2026 | 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Where: Headquarters and Stock of Costumes at Kunstquartier Bethanien
Solidarity-based cost sharing according to self-assessment per person: €15 / €20 / €30
Registration by March 17 via email and advance payment: fetzenundflicken@kostuemkollektiv.de
