We are a non-profit association for the promotion of art and culture, education and environmental and climate protection and education on these topics.
The Kostümkollektiv believes: Costume design deserves attention and recognition as an art form of staging. Interdisciplinarity and the complex relationship between costume design in the context of cultural history and society, as well as the visual-dramaturgical work with the individual body, is what makes this art so unique. This is why we promote costume design as an indispensable component of the performing and staging arts. We are driven by the desire to facilitate resource-efficient and environmentally friendly production and to raise awareness of the consequences of fast and seemingly cheap consumption.
Our stock of costumes offers Berlin costume designers a professional working infrastructure for their independent projects. We collect worn costumes, repair and maintain them and make them available for reuse. We share our textile workshop resources and salvaged, donated materials.
In workshops, we teach the most important aspects of costume design or facilitate workshops on the subject with our support. With our Fetzen&Flicken project at Haus der Materialisierung, we invite you to engage in circular practice and sustainable craftsmanship: creative repairs and upcycling design or self-tailored clothing. We run workshops on the background to the fast fashion industry and on sustainable costume production and fashion consumption.
In an interdisciplinary cultural-political network, we pursue the expansion of the circular and professional work infrastructure for independent artists and cultural workers in Berlin and in German-speaking countries.
If you would like to have a say, make decisions and become a part of a growing community for the future of infrastructures for the independent arts in Berlin, why not become a member?
The minimum membership fee per year is 35 EUR and, alongside the right to participate and exchange ideas, membership also allows you to use the stock of costumes at a discounted rate.
Every single euro helps us to realize the goals of the association that, unlike the stock of costumes, do not receive any external financial support. The financial basis of our association is formed by membership dues and donations. As a non-profit association, we are authorized to issue donation receipts! Donating is good for your karma!
